Nesting

When Nick comes home with a stonking hangover, I generally do the only thing that I can to help. I make him a little nest on the sofa, and I leave him to either game or watch crappy boy movies for a while.
Whilst best behaviour, including regular gym sessions, will be kicking off again tomorrow, for one night only, it’s time for a good nest. It is the day after a whole weekend of stag after all! This time I have gone one step further to try and make today's nest even more epic than usual, with the hooded dressing gown that Nick almost bought for himself a few weeks ago, but never quite managed. He's been talking about it ever since, so I popped out to pick it up this weekend. Coupled with some special healthy crisps, man-Uggs and a little naughty treat of chocolate milk, I hope it will do its job!

The dressing gown alone is a man-sized hug woven from cotton, and hopefully it will help to ease his pain ever so slightly. Thank goodness for Diwali meaning that there’s a whole day of freedom stretching ahead of us this Tuesday. Nick will sleep, I’ll get the wedmin folder out. It will be glorious!

Sunday Spa Day

Sunday was looking free and easy a few weeks ago. In fact, it was too free, and too easy, so with Kev also out of town at Nick’s stag, I knew that I would have a little partner in crime on a glorious free Sunday, and so I signed Jules up for a girly pamper session on Sentosa.

For my birthday this year the girls had given me money to have a little luxury spa session, and with Nick out of town and a full glorious day to fill, this seemed like the perfect time.
Whilst the majority of the good spas in Singapore end up costing around $800 just for a treatment or two, we managed to bag a $200 each GroupOn deal which gave us a steam room, an hour of massage and almost an hour of facial. It sounded perfect, and it was at one of the big swankie hotels too, so we knew it would live up to expectation.
After a lazy morning we met at the beach for lunch before heading to the hotel and making the most of an hour or so by the pool. It was a little cloudy and grey today, but it was glorious being away from the busy Singapore pools, and out in a little bit of countryside.

When it came to spa time we were in a funny little shared room, where we spent two hours being pampered, pummelled, primped, moisturised and exfoliated. There was one slightly hairy moment where the clay face mask covered every inch of my face other than my nostrils, and I had a short bust of panic, but other than that it was a ridiculously relaxing afternoon.
I returned home this evening desperate for a cup of tea, but feeling glorious.  I expect Nick back in the next two hours or so. I have a feeling that I am going to be starting this next week on a slightly more positive note than he will. Thank goodness for a public holiday this Tuesday.

Fridge freedom

Nick hates avocado and eggs, so much so that he doesn’t even really like to look at them, let alone having to smell them when I cook them for breakfast.

It’s a small thing, but this morning I had one hell of a guilt free brekkie, topped off with siracha, and with a mammoth coffee on the side. Yes, there were carbs, but I don’t even care.
Good behaviour starts again tomorrow in unrest after a little cheeky day off!

Getting my geek on!

With Nick away playing golf on segways and drinking from dawn ‘til, well, dawn the next day, and then on again, I decided a while ago that I ought to fill my weekend to the brim to keep me super busy, and to make the most of the free time. When I heard that there was going to be a TEDx Singapore event, then I signed myself up immediately.
TED talks are one of the podcasts that I take with me to the gym, so the idea of seeing some live, Singapore specific sessions sounded like a great idea, and it really was. Plus, the event ran from Friday lunch through until Saturday evening, so it was a great way for me to pass the time without becoming temped by the booze and food filled plans that everyone else seemed to have lined up.

During the day and a half there were some really great talks. They covered off everything from the sustainability of the seafood that they eat obsessively here in Singapore, to presentations from city planners explaining how they build the new towns in Singapore, and how they are begin to invest to make them smarter, better and more efficient. The opening segment was a 12 year old reading a book that he wrote with his dad on Singapore being a weird middle ground between the West and the East. The founder of Lonely Planet guides spoke and explained how their very first book was the story of their road trip from London all the way down to Singapore.
There were a couple of slightly less impressive speakers, but for the most part it was a really great event, and one that I would certainly encourage people to go to if they come back into town again!

Take Your Dog to Work Day

On of the best things in the world, ever, is dogs. All dogs. Any dog. I just love dogs. SQ, my next door neighbour at work and fellow organisational fan has three dogs, and I have been desperately trying to get her to bring at least one in for months.
Finally, we had a Friday visitor for the morning, and it was great. I spent nearly the entire morning on the floor, squishing his fox-like little face. He was delicious, and I am now attempting to champion a “bring your dog to work day’ every Friday.
We’re not supposed to have dogs in the building, especially because Malaysians have some very strong rules against dogs, but look how cute he is! At this point he was sitting on my handbag, just watching the taxis roll past the Treasury. He was perhaps the most chilled out dog I have ever met.

Fingers crossed Friday will now become Leo Day!
