Stag vs Girls Time

This weekend is Nick’s Asia Stag – I am worried for him on many levels (not least because he is being taken to Manila in the Philippines, which is widely regarded as the armpit of Asia), but I am sure he’ll have a lovely time…if he survives.
While he is off damaging his liver (and god knows what else) I have organised myself a very well behaved and jam packed (in a good-girl way) weekend.
Today I have a half-day in the office so that I can attend a series of TED talks this afternoon and all through Saturday. Then on Sunday I have a full spa day booked in on Sentosa with the lovely Jules. For my birthday the girls gave me money for a treat session, so that’s exactly what I’m going to be doing! Around the edges I will be going to Little India to admire the Diwali set up, hitting the gym, sorting out some wedding bits, finalising some plans for Erin’s Hen and generally just getting my life in order.
By Monday morning I am planning to be healthy, happy and in control. I imagine Nick will be the complete opposite!

Remember, Remember

It doesn’t matter that we are on the other side of the world, or that it’s so hot here that the idea of standing around in thick coats and warm gloves to watch fireworks is unbearable, when it’s the 5th November, you just have to remember, remember, no matter where you are!

As is our new Guy Fawkes Night tradition, Nick and I had the film V for Vendetta on in the background as we cooked and ate dinner last night, and then we rounded off our evening with sparklers and tea out on the balcony.
It was a bit too hot to hover out there for to long, but it ticked the box, and that’s all I ask.
I love to mark off little events like Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night, not least because once the 5th November is out of the way Christmas is so much closer! And that means that the wedding is on the cusp of kicking off too. WEDDING!

50 Days! 50!!

This Saturday we reached our 50 day countdown, and then just as we were recovering from the excitement of that, this Sunday we suddenly were getting married ‘next month’.
That’s right – it’s November already, and the numbers we’re counting down are now ticking out of the forties. It’s unbelievable, and it’s getting so close!
To celebrate this momentous and exciting weekend I put on for the first (and probably for the last) time, a very spangly gold nightie that Erin sent me in a little care package a few months ago. It’s been safety stored for a few days, awaiting the perfect time to bust it out, and when better than this weekend, so here it is (pose complete with essential morning coffee)!

Sunday Lunch

When you say “would you like to come over for Sunday lunch” this ought to conjure up images of roast beef, gravy and Yorkshire puddings. There ought to be the promise of a nice red wine, and maybe a crumble to round things off, obviously covered in a ridiculous amount of custard (because that’s how things taste best), but in our world this sort of invite has come to mean something very different.

With good behaviour required for the foreseeable future (excluding only Nick’s stag next week ad our visit from Catherine and Jeff), when we invite people over to eat with us now, they have grown accustomed to it meaning that we will serve them vegetables in some form or another.
Liv is thankfully used to this routine, so when her Sunday dinner of salmon and veggies was served she seemed pretty happy. When Nick’s friend Nick and his adorable daughter Kate came over for Sunday lunch I am not sure whether they had been warned what to expect, but if they were hoping for roast, the were sorely disappointed with grilled chicken salad.

Thankfully the adorable Kate was more than happy with the healthy goodies that we had laid out for her, but I think that Nick might think twice before accepting a lunch invite from us again until after the wedding!

Sober Saturday Sevens

The weekend of good behaviour continues, and this time we have had to deal with the challenges of being at our best throughout a whole day of Rugby Sevens and Halloween. We knew from the start that it was going to be a bit of a challenging day!

Thankfully, I was allowing myself one little treat this weekend, and so I was able to maintain my Halloween tradition of making at least one little Halloween themed goodie to mark the occasion. This year we had very orange crispy cake pumpkins – look how cute they are!
Baking and gym done, we then went and spent the afternoon at the Singapore Rugby Sevens, held on the pitch in front of the Cricket Club where some good friends are members, and so we were able to get smuggled into the best enclosure to see the action from up close.

Nick and I arrived after lunch whilst some of the boys had been there from around 10am. The majority of them were struggling to speak properly by the time we arrived thanks to their beer breakfasts, but it was fun to catch up with them all throughout the afternoon, and it’s incredibly impressive to think that most of them made it all the way through the day to see the kick off of the rugby finals at midnight.
We did not. We wandered home via the Asian Civilisation Museum, which was holding a special late night Halloween special event (complete with fun lighting shows outside) and were in bed by 10:30.

I could not help but be incredibly smug this morning – waking up feeling pretty healthy after my afternoon drinking soda water and lime!
