Lovely day for White Wedding

It’s two months until our wedding. Just two months! Whilst it still feels like the middle of a hazy summer out here thanks to the vile pollution, it’s actually mid-October, which means that it’s just two months away from go time!
We have Halloween, fireworks night, a new James Bond, Catherine and Jeff visiting, a weekend in Bali and then we’ll be home and getting married. In two months today! I can’t believe how quickly the past year has gone, or how slowly the last month has clawed it way past.  And just to prove the point, there are red cups creeping into the Starbucks here – it’s nearly Red Cup time too!

Two months!!! And, to add a little excitement, it sounds like the winter is going to be so freaking cold that there is a change (a tiny, baby, mini chance) that it will be cold enough to snow. That really would be a white wedding. Even if there’s no snow, we’re just hoping that if it’s cold enough then it won’t rain, which would be pretty glorious!

Cake Lady

Whenever one of the team have a birthday I am always in charge of supplying the cake for birthday celebrations. Sometimes it’s a mountain of donuts, often it’s a standard cake from a local bakery, but this time I think I outdid myself.

It’s pink, it’s massive, it’s covered in icing roses, and it’s egg-free which suits the vegan. I have to say, it’s a pretty glorious cake - even if I am not allowed to eat any of it!

I hate the haze

I have just spent a week and a half battling through what I thought was the beginning of sickness for some time, just to realise that it’s my body reacting pretty badly to the Singapore haze.
The haze is still here. The ‘two week’ burst of choking smog was supposed to be gone by mid-September. We’ve now hit mid-October and it’s still going strong, and even worse, they are threatening that it might be hanging around until the New Year.
When we found out that we were going to be staying in Singapore for another year I knew it was the right thing to do and that it made the most sense, but it’s only now looking back on the news that I realise just how miserable that decision made me, and I can only assume that it was massively amplified by this disgusting haze. Who in their right mind would want to stay in a place where the sky is thick, heavy, white, smelly and filthy. Even walking to hurt is hazardous now. It’s vile, and the thought that half the year might be spent under this cloud is almost more than I can handle. I need my Emsworth seaside – asap!
Sadly the low mood and weather-related-misery developed into a full-blown cold and cough, which dragged me down and through a couple of really horrible lows over the past week or so. Made worse again by the fact that last week was spent organising and running events, as well as getting the team ready for Q4 and getting all our marketing and PR plans lined up for the rest of the year. It was hectic, stressful, busy, and I was definitely ill enough to be at work for 50% of the week (which by my standards means that it really was pretty bad!).
Thankfully I woke up this Monday in a much better mental place, but the smog is still here, the cough is still here, and I’m slightly concerned that the hacking cough is directly related to the vile amounts of pollution that I must be breathing in on a daily basis. One more week and I’m going to the doctor. Gross.

Speeding up the healing process

This Saturday Nick had a golf day booked in with his friend (also called Nick), which means he was up at 6am to head off for a ferry and a day in the sun. Once I’m awake, I’m awake for the day, so my Saturday also started at 6am, we me looking at a completely empty, hazy, slightly depressed day with nothing to fill it with.

I decided that it was time for a super-girlie day. There was gym sessions, vegetarian food, shopping, pedicures, rubbish TV, wedding planning, mooching, coffee drinking and a little bit of napping. It was a totally non-day, but in it’s way, it was quite glorious.

Project Wedding Cake is GO!

A glimpse at what's to come!

This weekend we have hit the 70 day countdown for our wedding, and even more exciting, Erin has started to work her magic for our wedding cake!
What went from a cake that we would only have if Erin wanted to make it has turned it what promises to be one of the most epic cakes of all time!

Steeping, boozy fruit - delicious!

It’s going to be a four tiered, fruit and carrot cake mountains of amazingness, with added sugar flower details and even some added gold edible sequins to match our lose colour theme.
I can’t believe that we’re close enough to the wedding for the cake be getting made, and this weekend we uploaded our wedding list onto the John Lewis website ready for when it goes live to the public in early November! These were all jobs that when we first started thinking about them sounded like they were so far away they were never going to happen. The Big Day is going to come rushing up on us before we know what’s happening!
