I have just spent a week and a half
battling through what I thought was the beginning of sickness for some time,
just to realise that it’s my body reacting pretty badly to the Singapore haze.
The
haze is still here. The ‘two week’ burst of choking smog was supposed to be
gone by mid-September. We’ve now hit mid-October and it’s still going strong,
and even worse, they are threatening that it might be hanging around until the
New Year.
When
we found out that we were going to be staying in Singapore for another year I
knew it was the right thing to do and that it made the most sense, but it’s
only now looking back on the news that I realise just how miserable that
decision made me, and I can only assume that it was massively amplified by this
disgusting haze. Who in their right mind would want to stay in a place where
the sky is thick, heavy, white, smelly and filthy. Even walking to hurt is
hazardous now. It’s vile, and the thought that half the year might be spent
under this cloud is almost more than I can handle. I need my Emsworth seaside –
asap!
Sadly
the low mood and weather-related-misery developed into a full-blown cold and
cough, which dragged me down and through a couple of really horrible lows over
the past week or so. Made worse again by the fact that last week was spent
organising and running events, as well as getting the team ready for Q4 and
getting all our marketing and PR plans lined up for the rest of the year. It
was hectic, stressful, busy, and I was definitely ill enough to be at work for
50% of the week (which by my standards means that it really was pretty bad!).
Thankfully I woke
up this Monday in a much better mental place, but the smog is still here, the
cough is still here, and I’m slightly concerned that the hacking cough is
directly related to the vile amounts of pollution that I must be breathing in
on a daily basis. One more week and I’m going to the doctor. Gross.
