This weekend had been booked in the diary
for quite some time. We had set aside a couple of days to hang out with Stu and
his girlfriend somewhere other then Phuket or Singapore.
The opposite of comfort food - Asian breakfast |
When he first
moved out to Asia Stuart would travel around all the time, but having got
weighed down with the responsibilities and financial obligations associated
with starting up and running his own business, his freedom levels deteriorated
considerably, leaving him traveling nowhere other than home once a year and
over to Singapore about as much.
The KL skyline |
Now
that things are picking up for him on the business front, and having heard
about our love of the Hotel Majestic in KL, we quickly decided that we ought to
try and fit in a trip before Nick and I head home for a couple of weeks, after
which the pace of the year is promising to pick up considerably.
Stuart 'relaxing' with a cut throat razor in action |
Whilst
I was less than enthusiastic about the idea of leaving the routine of Singapore
where I knew that I could be in contact with home absolutely whenever needed, it
turns out that the change really did take my mind off the stress and misery of
the week before. The Hotel Majestic is a pretty special place, and if there was
one thing that was going to help, it was going somewhere so perfectly colonial
that it felt as though I was just down the road from my family. In the middle
of dusty, humid Kuala Lumpur it felt like we could have been 20 minutes from
home in the heart of the Goodwood Estate.
Buddies |
I
suppose it turns out that drinks on helipads, afternoon teas and cocktails in
our favourite bar really does help your mental state.
We
returned to Singapore in time for a Fathers Day / Mamu’s birthday Skype with
home, where we were told that there was still no bit news to share. The wait
continues, which means that the struggle continues for my dear, darling Gma
too. I want to go home now.
