White shirt, ramen and a client lunch…dangerous combo

I’m a spiller – always have been, always will be! I have had a rule for the last five years, that whenever a client lunch is planned, white clothing is 100% inappropriate. You never know what you’re going to eat and how messy it might be, so to be safe rather than sorry. Dark colours are essential for any days when entertaining is a possibility.
Today I forgot that rule, and whilst I have come back from lunch having escaped from too much damage, the white shirt that I put on fresh this morning will definitely have to take one or two stain-removing cycles through the laundry to get back to its original state.
As I am sure you can imagine, a spicy bowl of ramen (noodles, big chunks of meat and a spicy red broth) is a daunting prospect for a spiller at the best of times. Add a white shirt, chopsticks and a spoon way bigger than you mouth to the mix and you will have a fair idea of just what I was up against today!
Following a bit of a queue to get a table at Ramen Santouka, we eventually made our way through a lunchtime feast of pork cheek starters and delicious spicy pork ramen. The atmosphere was pretty fast-food focused, but the ramen and sides really were delicious, and whilst it was incredibly filling it's a great choice of food for lunchtime. It was a really tasty lunch, and I am very happy to know that this place is just walking distance from the office.
Now I just need to hope that I can get the stain out of this shirt…I might need to stop in at the shops on my way home to find something strong enough. All I kept thinking during the lunch was that they would have given me a bib at Pho in Soho. I clearly need to work on my Asian eating skills. Maybe it’s time to ban all cutlery other than chopsticks and soup spoons from the flat – I am sure that that’s going to be the best way to learn fast! Nick will love that plan...maybe.
