Wings and beer

Before I moved out to Singapore, Nick would tell me that whenever he was hungover / drunk / delicate / excited / sad / happy / stressed / relaxed (yeah, pretty much anytime) he would make plans to have a dinner of spicy wings and beer with his good friend Kev, and that they would spend their man-time eating, drinking and bonding. It was his happy place.
Wings aren’t really my thing, but anywhere that sells wings normally offers up a pretty good burger too, so when he suggested meeting up with Kev and his lovely American girlfriend Jules for wings and beer after work last night, I obviously wasn’t going to say no!
We went to a central microbrewery called Berwerkz (imaginative!) just down the road from where I work (handily meaning that for once I didn’t get lost along the way!). There was a load of tables out by the river, so we were able to make the most of the evening’s amazing breeze whilst we stuffed ourselves with a ridiculous amount of Western food.
There was ginger beer by the jug full (actual beer that tasted like ginger, not the ginger beer that you had on picnics with Marmite sandwiches sadly), lightly spicy wings to start and then red meat to follow. The other three all had burgers and chips as their mains, but there was no way that I could turn down an entire bowl of chili, covered in cheese and served with corn tortilla chips. Soooo good! Although the red meat pain that followed was not quite so enjoyable!
The evening was such a nice temperature and the food was so ridiculously filling that we ended up taking about three and a half hours to get through it all and to be comfortable enough to head home via the MTR. With the comfortably weather, the low stress, and the chilled atmosphere of the restaurant it felt like a fabulous causal Friday, with good food, ridiculous chat and a couple of beers to wash it all down. So much so that when I woke up this morning I could have sworn that it was Saturday, before realising that there was still work to be done this week, followed by a panic attack that I had slept through my 7:30 call (which was on Wednesday). I eventually got my head into the right place and made it into work in time for my 8:30 meeting, but my brain was definitely not ready to go to work this morning. Still, nearly the weekend!
