More of the same

Best behaviour is going pretty well so far this week – lots of gym sessions, no carbs, plenty of veggies, water and sleep. All in all, we’re powering on through and making good progress.

Veggie chilli, veggie curry, veggie sides...

I am slightly worried about how this weekend is going to pan out seeing as Nick has his newly engaged friends Little Nick and Elly passing through Singapore for a night on their way back to the UK at the end of their trip, but fingers crossed we can maintain booze-free best behaviour without ruining our best hospitality efforts…we’ll just have to wait and see how we get on there!

Planning, planning, planning

Sunday is often my most productive day of the week, and it feels like today is no exception! Having woken up at six, unable to get back to bed, today has been filled with cooking, cleaning, wedding planning, Christmas planning, life admin and sorting. I haven’t made it further from home than the rubbish-shoot in the corridor that takes all our rubbish to the big bins under the building, and it’s been glorious.

Hanging out with Charlie in his cage

Once of the fun things about productive weekend days spent at home is also the chat time with home. Today I spent around 25 minutes hiding out with Charlie in his ‘cage’ (the fire guard). I also got to play in a dolls house and hear Baa Baa Black Sheep about ten times. All in all, today has been pretty glorious!

Catching up with Flash

Although most of Singapore seems to have emptied out of town for the weekend, taking advantage of the Thursday free day, we were happy to discover that Flash, who has been living over in Hong Kong for the past year, was going to be in town for the weekend. He’s been over a number of times since he moved, but for some reason his trips to Singapore always seem to have clashed with our outings out of Singapore. This time we just about managed to sort out our timings though!

After a healthy start at the gym, we headed out to meet Liv and Flash for lunch at a cute little Italian place around 15 minutes away from the flat. What was supposed to be a couple of hours catching up turned into an entire day adventure with lunch, dinner, drinks, sunbathing and a little walk through Little India. It’s been strange not having Flash living in Singapore any more, but it was great to have him back, even if only temporarily!

Hiding from the haze

Singapore has been sitting under a cloud of dirty haze / fog for the past few weeks, and it’s really rather grotty. Thankfully they managed to clear things up a bit during the F1 weekend so that being out of the house to watch the action wasn’t too offensive, but it’s back with a vengeance again this week, and it’s really rather vile.
The smog blows in from the slash and burn in Indonesia where the palm tree plantations are cutting down and regenerating, but sadly the smoggy, dirty air blows over Singapore and gets stuck here with no wind to help move it further away.
This Friday it got so bad that the local schools were all shut, and we made the decision not to head into the office unless it’s urgent. That means that my day was spent working at the flat, with Miss Marple for company on the TV.

It also meant that I had to pop out to the shop for supplies, and I returned to the flat with some fun sparse flowers to fill my new jug (purchased in Bali and carried back with the most care imaginable) and enough goodies to make a dinner of salmon, cauliflower mash and greens.

All the good stuff, and no lung cancer to report. Yet!

The best sort of Thank You!

I received a little thank you card in the post today, and it was glorious. There are dinosaur stickers, and finger painting – really it was just the best sort of Thank You card out there.

I am now trying to work out whether there’s a way that we can incorporate finger painting into the Thank You cards from our wedding. I am sure there’s a way!
