For the first time in over a year, this
week our friend Duncan is back in town for three days only following their
relocation to Hong Kong last year, and as I hadn’t seen him since before he and
Kate got married this summer, we knew that we had to try and get even a short
catch up arranged before he flew back out to Hong Kong.
As
we are away this weekend, we ended up having to battle for a meeting time,
especially as he was heavily involved with work events and sessions while he
was in town, so on Thursday night a plan was hatched. Duncan had around two
hours to spare between work and dinner plans, so Nick and I set ourselves up at
Club Meatballs, a really nice bar that also serves great meatballs and salads.
We had some drinks and a light supper, and then whenever Duncan had the chance
to escape he was going to rush over and see us for as long as possible.
For
a while it was slightly tense that he wasn’t going to have any time at all to spare,
which would have been a real shame, although the good dinner would have
minimised the disappointment slightly. Nick was working away the whole time,
probably have to be on his phone for around 65% of the entire evening,
returning to work after we finished dinner for an extra hour to two too, but
thankfully Duncan did manage to spare us around an hour and a half for a proper
catch up and a couple of drinks.
It’s
always nice to see people who have been away for some time, and I can’t wait
until we get to go out and visit them in Hong Kong again later this year. There
had been mentioned of an earlier trip, but I am keen to hold off until the
temperature drops and it’s possible to wear a jumper and not look mental. Ahh,
jumpers. Already I can’t wait!
