We love Bali – can you tell?
Whilst
it’s only been a week since our last little adventure, there was a last minute
public holiday announced in Singapore for the election to be held, and seeing
as Nick has had to work all over holidays this year to buy back enough time for
us to get married this Christmas, it seemed only right that we jumped at the
chance to have a little, ever so slightly longer break from Singapore.

Whilst
Thursday night was filled with steak and wine in Singapore, Friday morning
dawned bright and early and we were on our way. We were staying in a slightly different
part of town from normal, but that didn’t mean that we broke with any of our
local favourite locations or traditions. To say that we’re creatures of habit
would be an utterly shocking understatement!
The pool at Poppies |
The
photos of this trip probably all look a lot like the photos of our last trip,
the only difference being that this time we had discovered that one of our very
favourite restaurants also runs some no-frills cottages just over the little
alley from the restaurant.
Nestled in amongst
a very lush, overgrown garden we found ten little huts, Poppies Cottages were nothing
fancy but all made with traditional thatched roofs and covered in flowers, a
lagoon-like swimming pool with a maximum of four people using it at any time,
and the most friendly service imaginable. And all for the bargain price of
around £50 a night for both of us.

Breakfast was
served at the cottage on the little table just outside the door, where I would
arrive at around 8am, working through wedding planning and a couple of highly addictive
podcasts that I have got hooked on while Nick slept. Then we spent our days and
nights doing our normal rounds. Sunset on the beach front at Ku De Ta, amazing
fish suppers at Sardine (so good that after our Friday dinner success we just
cancelled other plans and went again for Saturday night), a little bit of
shopping in the little one-off shops and a lot of mooching around.

We’re going back
to Bali again when Catherine and Jeff are over in November, and we’re already working
on our plan of things that we have to do with them while we’re there. Bali
really is a rather special place!
Bali sunsets have to be amongst the best there are! |
