As we continue our accidental (to some extent) exploration around all
the most expat friendly colonial venues in Singapore, this Sunday we were
invited to lunch with our friend Joycey at the Singapore Cricket Club. If we
were looking for posh colonial, we found it. On a par with the Polo Club for
architecture and beautiful views, this was the perfect place for a relaxed
lunch.
Sadly, we hadn’t booked
for the full roast lunch buffet that is apparently amazing and gets served with
proper roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, and which was therefore inevitably
fully booked as it was Mother’s Day in Singapore this Sunday. However, there
were a number of other bars and restaurants (of differing formalities) spread
throughout the building, and so we spent a very sweaty hour or so on the veranda,
enjoying a nice glass of rose and the beautiful view before moving inside for a
very British lunch of fish and chips, complete with all the salt and vinegar a
chippy would offer you and tartar sauce on the side. It was a real Sunday
treat, and whilst it was a little sad that there wasn’t any beef or tatties, it
was a very good lunch!
