I’m working from our Emeryville (San Francisco) office this week, and
it’s so confusing!
When I wake up at 7am
(or 4am as on my first night when the hotel forgot to cancel the last occupants
wake up calls – that’s right, there were two of them), Nick is just going to
bed. When I’m getting ready to finish up my day, Nick is just getting into the
office the next day! When I speak to Catherine she’s suddenly in exactly the
right time zone for me, and when I have any communications with people in the
UK I have no idea what day they are on, let alone what time of day it is. I
think it’s far to say that having people on all corners of the world is
incredibly confusing!
Still, I’m now
finishing up my four day stint in the US office, and it’s getting close to
being time to go and visit Charlie and Heidi before I start the delightful 24
hour mission back to Singapore.
During this trip I’ve
had a lot of internal meetings, I’ve met all the members of the team who have
joined since I was last here in March, I’ve been to the Facebook head quarters
and the huge Google office. The main let down of the week is that the one person that I really did need to have meetings with, and the person who recommended this as the week that I visit, is the one person who has not been in the office all week, and who has not yet confirmed whether there's going to be time for a last minute catch up before I leave the office tonight. Ignoring that pretty massive hiccup, there have been lunches, drinks events, and more work
than I could shake a stick at. All in all, it feels like it’s been a long four
day week, but it’s been great fun too!
That said, I can’t wait
to get the rest of this week done and dusted, and to get back to Singapore,
ready to start the final countdown to Christmas and home time!
