Farewell dinner

I’m heading off to the States for a week – it won’t be a patch on the two week stint that I did at the beginning of the year, and even better than that, I won’t be expected to share a room with anyone throughout my stay (although I will be in the dodgy corporate apparently again – I dread to think who will be in the other room).
Still, whilst I am really looking forward to the weekend with Catherine and her family in Reno, playing with babies, ponies and puppies, I am really dreading the week in San Fran, or more accurately, Emeryville. I’m not sure what it is that I am unexcited about, but I think it might be a mixture of being away from Nick, being stuck in crappy Emeryville (which really is a hole of a place) and being on my own for the best part of a week.
Thankfully, I booked my own tickets, so I fly out with plenty of time to see family, I only actually fly back from Reno at commuting time on Monday morning, and I leave on the following Friday morning. Even better, as I don’t need to be in the office on Friday night I have arranged to leave the office on Thursday and head straight to dinner and a sleep over with Charlie and Heidi in Palo Alto, so I only actually have to spend three nights in the creepy apartment, and I’m back in Singapore in time for a full Sunday to catch up (landing at 1am on Sunday morning).

Still, it’s a full week from today, so to mark the occasion (and to fill some time before I have to leave for the airport at a very anti-social three am tomorrow morning, Nick and I arranged to go out for a lovely steak dinner with a little bit of wine on the side – any excuse!
Nick said that he wanted to grab dinner, but that he had no preference where we went, so I suggested a restaurant called Belle, that I very nearly booked out for his birthday surprise dinner, before deciding to go somewhere a little nicer and a little more special for the occasion.
We had a lovely evening mooching around, eating and drinking before heading home for a brief two hour sleep until my alarm shocked me back to life…
