I have just spent the last 27 hours flying
over four separate typhoons and through the most horrendous turbulence I have
ever experienced to get back to Singapore. At one point they suspended service
in the cabin for over two hours because the conditions were so bad. I woke up
from sleep three times having a horrible feeling of falling, only to realise
that it was actually the changes in altitude as we slammed through the bumpy
weather conditions.
Nick
hates turbulence, and on the smaller planes that they send out over Asia, I do
too. Thankfully on the bigger planes that make the trips over the oceans things
are much more manageable for me. Not so for Nick.
When I got to
Seoul for a quick plane update and refuel (you know you’re flying too far when
even the hugest of planes can’t make the journey in one pop) I received a
message from Nick who has been stalking my progress through the clouds – the
charts that he and his shipping buddies use really did show the severity of the
conditions too, so lets just say that it was probably easier for me to be up in
the horribly clouds than it was for Nick trying to sleep whilst worrying that
my plane was never going to touch down safely again.
