Finishing up

When we cleaned out my grandads hours a year or so ago, there were all sort of fun things that we gathered and kept hold of. I now have a massive collection of house bits and bobs, paintings and pictures all saved to one side and stashed under the road at the Palace in London, awaiting my return and ready for me to set up another little house full of tat back in the UK.
In amongst the draws full of clothes and material, Mamu came across a bundle of fabric that my granny had clearly picked out and ordered ready for one of her fabulous new suits, but that she never got around to making.

Material to play with
My granny died when I was ten, and the information on the front of the material packet read that it was Mrs Shelia Townsend, 1993. Whilst it wasn’t the most important thing for her to get done, it felt a bit like unfinished business, so the material was entrusted to me, and was shipped over to Singapore along with my other possessions, ready to see what Asia had in store for it.
This weekend in Thailand we made a plan to go and see Stuarts tailor so that Nick could get some new shirts made up, so it only made sense that I take the material along with me to see what they could do with it. We had discussions, got measured up at the shop and then had a slightly drunken first round fitting just a few hours later back at the house (where they had already made the shell of the jackets, my skirt, one shirt and the suit trousers for Nick - all in a few hours and just between the two of them) to ensure everything was going to fit nicely. What was supposed to be a quick tailor run to get Nick some new shirts and for me to ask about pricing turned into Nick getting 9 shirts and a blue cashmere wool suit made up, whilst my material is in the process of being transformed into a Channel style jacket and a mid-calf peach pencil skirt.

Pinned and fitted

The finished products will be sent over once they are all finished up and perfected – I can’t wait to see them!
