Sacha & Sons

Pastrami-licous!

Having recovered from my slightly miserable Friday night refusal to leave the house, when it came to making a plan for dinner on Saturday it felt only right that we venture out and try somewhere new.
The joy of us both being on good behaviour and trying our best not to drink most of the time is that when we pop out for dinner it’s not only a nice, fairly well behaved outing, but it also cuts the price in half, making it a much less ridiculously expensive option!
Tonight we went to a new little deli style restaurant that I have been excited to try out ever since I heard it was opening. Sacha & Sons in a New York style Jewish deli, specialising in all of my favourite things (well, some of my favourite things – that list is fairly long after all!)

Salmon and creme fraiche latkes amazingess!

The menu centres around amazing homemade bagels, potato and onion latkes (savour pancakes / hash brown type creations), meat sandwiches on rye bread, and pretty much everything topped with smoked salmon and sour cream.
On a bad day I could easily have ordered one of everything just for the joy of trying it all out, but with good behaviour prevailing we managed to keep a lid on our ordering, just!
First up we had to try the salmon and crème fraiche latkes, so we ordered one to spilt, which we shared and actually only ate a layer of each. It was delicious, but I think that it’s more of a brunch dish. I guess I’ll just have to come back for breakfast sometime soon!

The Reuben dream!

Then we had our mains. Nick ordered the roast beef rye sandwich, and I went for the best thing on the menu (as I had decided before we even arrived there – it was the main reason for our visit), the classic grilled Reuben sandwich. A genius concoction of pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and dill pickles. It might sound random, but I have never once been disappointed by a classic Reuben, and this one really was good.
It was also massive, and due to the amount of filling I was only able to complete one half of the mammoth offering, but on a hungrier day I will be back and I will happily demolish the whole lot in one fell swoop!

Bagels, fresh from the oven

Before dragging ourselves home we also had to take advantage of the rare fresh bagels (something that you never find in Singapore), so we gathered four to take away, and they are now nestled safely in our freezer, waiting for a breakfast or dinner that needs a lovely bagel to just round it off.
