Sometimes our Sundays are a bit slow, which
can be just what’s needed, but this was not one of those weeks, so Sunday got
started nice and early, and we definitely made the most of it!
Not
only was every item of laundry done, and the flat cleaned from top to bottom,
and the shopping for next week done, but this was all ticked off the list well
before lunchtime, leaving just enough time for a quick 30 minute swim before
getting ready to go out for our afternoon adventure.

A grey, drizzly day down at East Coast Park |
There
was a threat of rain in the air, so if we were going to go anywhere, we had to
make the decision quickly. Often a Sunday afternoon could be passed quite
nicely down at Sentosa, where the beach and lovely drinks in the sun can make
you feel like you’re a million miles away from the city, but today we opted to
head east instead, to East Coast Park, a lovely green space on the seafront,
quite close to the airport.

Our new buddy |
Our
first port of call was the only dog café in Singapore. That’s right, a dog
café. In the past I went to cat café, which is a fairly typical thing now –
they even have one in London. It started because people living crammed in
cities can’t always have their own pets, so the idea of the cat café is that
you go and have a coffee, read a book and get a squish with a cat if one of
those that lives in the café takes a shining to you. I went to the Singaporean
interpretation of this, and it was really disappointing. It was hairy, gross
and a little bit dull. I didn’t hold out much hope for the dog café, but I was
definitely going to try it out as soon as I got the chance!
Rather than pretending that you’re in
the café for the fabulous coffee, this place knew that you wanted to sit on the
floor and feed the dogs treats, so that’s exactly what we did. There were
plenty of gross little ‘toy’ sized creatures that the locals got all over
excited about, but Nick and I quickly selected our favourites, and then spent
the next 30 minutes of so feeding them treats and grabbing cuddles whenever we
could lure them close enough.
Yes,
it was incredibly random, but it was great fun! Plus, it’s been a long time
since I’ve been anywhere with a dog to squish, so it was totally worth the
effort!
Dogs
cuddled, fed and abandoned, we then made our way over to the local mini-golf
indoors course for a round of comedy putting efforts, surrounding by children
and harassed looking dads who were clearly put in charge for the day while
their wives and helpers took the afternoon off.

Working out the best plan of attack |
I
would like to say that all my golf lessons paid off and that I was on or under par
on every hole. Sadly, as you can see from my complete failure of a scorecard,
that was not the case. In my very poor defence, I didn’t have a class on
putting, but I have to admit that it was a shaming performance on my part!

Focus, pure focus |
Still, another
good way to pass some time during the first rain that Singapore has seen in weeks.
Plus it filled the time perfectly, and once we had got a cab back to our flat
it was time to make a lovely veggie dinner to share with Liv when she popped
over to visit, and then it was time for a glorious early night. The perfect end
to a rather lovely Sunday!
