When we started planning our wedding I wasn’t
really sure that we would need a wedding cake. I had thought that we would just
have friends and family bake a cake each and then offer that up throughout the
night. When we were told that was against the catering rules for the venue we
thought that if we had a cheese mountain then that would feed guests throughout
the evening (rather than laying on a second round of food two hours after the
main dinner), and it would look a bit like a cake, so that would kill two birds
with one stone.
Then
I spoke to Erin, and that was something of a game-changer. Erin is officially
Queen of the Cakes. She makes these incredibly baked, really tasty and
stunningly decorated concoctions for friends’ birthdays and family
celebrations, and following a couple of chats with her she amazingly offered to
make a cake for our wedding! What an incredible thing!
Since
this announcement, the cake has been one of the most exciting things to think
about. For most our of planning I feel like we’re holding off until July to
really get started, but for the cake, as it needs planning, thinking about and
a bit of practising for Erin, we’re allowed to think about it now, and it’s so exciting!
Erin
has even taken some classes to work on techniques that will probably be
involved in the final version – look at these incredible flowers that she
whipped up yesterday while suffering from a killer hangover! If these are her hung-over
flowers I cannot imagine how beautiful and utterly perfect her sober versions
will be!
