Whenever we have guests come and visit us
in Singapore there are a couple of core venues that we take them to in order to
ensure that they have a true introduction to Singapore, whilst at the same time
taking advantage of being able to go out for some very, very naughty dinner
without feeling too much guilt. It’s all in a good cause after all!
This
time around it was actually Kev and Jules who had friends in town, but in the
interest of diversifying who they spent time with during their flying two day
visit to Singapore, we gate-crashed their plans and insisted that they followed
our fail-safe “Welcome to Singapore” routine, and as always, it did not fail to
impress!
First
up were drinks at the lovely Southbridge bar; a very understated and always relatively
spacious rooftop bar with amazing views of the city without the accompanying price
tag that you come to expect in this city.
After
drinks we headed straight over to Si Chuan Dou Hua, a very good Chinese restaurant
in the middle of the business centre which always impresses guests, with great
roast duck, wasabi prawns and tea ninjas who sneak up behind you and pour high
speed tea into your tea cup from over a foot away. It’s a bizarre thing to see
the first time they get you. Totally worth it whenever you have guests to stay.
Following
dinner there were a couple of drinks at the top of 1 Altitude, the highest
alfresco bar in the world, and then we really did feel like we had come to the
end of our impress-the-guests routine. We were out of suggestions and pretty
tired, and so we snuck off at a relatively sensible hour, leaving them to work
out whether they were going to go home and sleep before their early start at
the airport, or if they were going to just dance through the night. I assume
they went home, but you can never be too sure!!
