Would you like some wine with that?

When I had to come into work on the Monday after Easter, thinking about the beautiful four-day weekend that everyone would be enjoying back in England I was horribly jealous. Fortunately, Singapore didn’t let me down too badly, as it had lined up a lovely Thursday off this week instead, free to be filled however we liked. That just about makes up for the limited Easter break!
Not only do we get a mini-weekend just before the actual weekend, it also means that Wednesday night is almost like Friday night, so we most certainly had to make the most of it.
Invites were sent out to Duncan and Kate, as well as much friend Mike and his girlfriend Tilley, and the evening was spent getting gloriously drunk at our house.
The intention was to have a grown up dinner party. As also, the flat was cleaned from head to toe, the table was set with all the cutlery we own, and most of the glasses too. When the guests arrived at around 7:30, you would be forgiven for thinking that we were going to be having a fairly sedate evening. This was not the case.
Dinner was nibbles and gin to start, followed by wine with lamb and couscous, chased by homemade chocolate torte and limoncello, then cheese and cocktails, then a bit more wine, and a bit more cheese.
By the time that we really ought to have been going to bed we discovered that Mike had never been up to the top of Marina Bay Sands, so we all had a shot of Jaeger and jumped into taxi to head into the City, desperate to show him the sights for the top of the ‘ship building’.
Sadly the queue for Ku De Tah was massive, so instead we loaded back into a cab and headed to a tried and tested bar and dance floor just off Club Street, where the drinking continued and where we bumped into a number of the boys who were also out making the most of the mini-Friday vibes in town.
To say that the night carried on for quite a bit longer would be something of an understatement. When we dragged ourselves home at 5am, we knew that it had been a dinner party success. Regardless of whether we would be able to remember it tomorrow or not!
