Whilst waiting for my spin class last night, I received a text from our
boss calling a 9am meeting (whilst most of the team only gets into the office
at 9:30). It didn’t sound like good news, but I tried to ignore it for the rest
of the evening, and worked on persuading myself that it was because we had a
new girl who started on Monday, and as the boss is away travelling with work this
week, he just wanted to make sure that we had a full group catch up.
Sadly, this was not the
case. Instead, he was announcing that one of the six other people who work in
our office had been sacked, and that she was leaving the very minute we were on
the call. She had been in the office when I arrived in the morning, then when
we moved to the meeting room she didn’t come with us. When we returned to the
office about 20 minutes later, her desk was abandoned and her draws were empty.
Apparently she’s been
on a performance review for a while, so the end was always going to be on the
way, but as she was 8 months pregnant, and the new girl was being trained to fill
the gap for a three month basis you would have thought that they would have
just waited for her to go on maternity leave and to complete the training
handover process at least.
Weird, very weird.
