Friday night art and treats

Nick has had a shocker of we week, with most of his office back in Europe on holiday for three weeks of summer sun, he’s been stuck at work until really late, and even then the calls and emails continue into the wee small hours. Friday was no exception to this slightly stressful routine, so in an attempt to take his mind off work without just forcing him to go out and drink excessively with the boys, I made a little plan for our Friday night.
Firstly we went to Late Night at the SAM (Singapore Art Museum). In London all museums and galleries are free all the time, but in Singapore you pay a lot just to wander around for a few hours. Luckily, they are catching on to the idea that some people want to go to late night openings that are free of children, and if possible, are free of charge!

The galleries were pretty small, and mostly modern art which I have to admit that I am normally to dense to understand, but we played on the cushion installations, watched random cloud videos that made no sense and admired the beautiful old building for it’s glorious architecture.

Having mooched around in an area where phone and internet use is pretty frowned upon Nick was starting to ease himself into the weekend, so we headed to East8, a New York style tapas bar that I walk past on my way to and from work every day and that I’ve wanted to try out for ages.

Dinner was so good that Nick even busted out a 'happy dance'. I did well!

Normally when I pick a destination for dinner it’s a massive failure and we end up having to go and eat somewhere else immediately afterwards, but this time I somehow managed to get it spot on! The service was incredible, the food was great (slides, ribs and wings), there was a selection of 80s and 90s music playing in the background and we were served up some really delicious cocktails too.

Chocolate and peanut butter soufflé - it was delicious!

Our last stop of the night was at a rooftop bar called Mr Punch, located on the top floor of the Mint Toy Museum. I’d seen pictures in the past and been keen to try it out, so we decided to stop in and see what was on offer. Sadly it ended up being pretty mediocre, so we had one drink and then headed home (just in time, as Nick was starting to fall asleep at the table).
All in all, we had a great night out, and when we got home at around 11, the week felt well and truly behind us, ready for anther fun filled weekend (hopefully without any more work emergencies)!
