Sometimes (often, and because it’s the way I like to spend the weekend)
Saturday and Sunday will pass in a blur of jobs at the flat, cooking, shopping,
resting and catching up with one or two friends before retreating to the safety
of the flat for quiet time in preparation for the week to come.
This weekend was rather
different, and it was great fun as a result! I might have done no laundry and
the flat may be a state (which I would normally find incredibly distressing),
but as I am going to be a recluse for all of this week in preparation for major
celebrations for Nick’s 30th next week, I will easily get through
those jobs after work this week.
After starting the
weekend with a bit of culture, a brilliant dinner and even a drink at a bar
I’ve wanted to try out for months, the next few days took a similar format.
On Saturday we woke up
pretty early (me at 6:30, Nick at 9:00) and went out for breakfast down by the
river. An avocado on toast later, we made our way through an incredible Japanese
art exhibit that Nick has wanted to take a look through for a while, before
taking a quick turn around Wine Connection (great wine and cheap too = the best
and most dangerous place for wine shopping in Singapore!)
After this strong start
we popped home for a cup of tea before going to the cinema to watch the
(surprisingly) incredibly funny Guardians of the Galaxy at the amazing Platinum
Class screen of course. Then it was on to Liv and Flash’s for two hour of
BBQing and drinking in the sun before we jumped in a cab and made our way to
the other side of the island to meet Kev and Jules for dinner at the yacht
club.

Whilst the yacht club
is pretty no frills compared to its London counterpart it was a great spot to
spend a relaxed evening out. We had a couple of drinks in the setting sun from
the balcony bar, then we headed down for BBQ dinner before having a couple of
glasses of wine in the very British Mess Bar upstairs. The BBQ was a brilliant
system, for a bargain price you get free access to a generous salad bar, then
you take a basket and fill it with raw steak, chicken and seafood (everything
from salmon and prawns to lobster and shell fish). You get this cooked to
perfection and brought over to your table to test out alongside your salad and wine
selection. You can’t say fairer than that!
Having finished up at
the club at around 1am, Sunday was a bit of a slower day for us, although I was
still up in time for a FaceTime with Catherine at around 8am. Still, once we
were up and running at full speed it was already nearly noon, but we managed to
get some shopping done, had a great Mexican lunch and then spent our evening
out in Fort Canning (once again with Kev and Jules) where we dined on a picnic
of pizza and Pimms whilst watching a screening of Pretty Woman. It was, as
always, a bit too hot for comfort, but it was a great way to end a pretty
active and very enjoyable weekend.
