With no real plans in place, and Nick desperate to spend his Friday
evening doing something to celebrate the end of the worst three weeks of work
that he’s had since living in Singapore, we made a plan to go to Blu Jazz for
drinks and a bit of a chill out.
A couple of people said
that they would try and join us if possible, so we reserved a big table for
eight just in case, and agreed to meet there at 6:30 to spend the evening
lounging outside listening to the live jazz and blues music drifting out of the
three story bar and live music venue.
For the first two hours
or so it was just myself and Nick defending the table and enjoying snacks of
hummus and a couple of gin and tonics, and it seemed likely that it would stay
that way as people kept sending messages to say that they weren’t going to be
able to make it.
Just as we were
thinking about leaving to go and grab nice dinner on neighbouring Arab Street
people started to arrive, and soon enough it was 11pm and we were surrounded by
about 15 friends, all just having lovely chilled drinks out in the open.
It was a fairly uneventful
evening, but a really lovely one too. You don’t really get pubs in Singapore in
the same way that you do at home, so this evening was the nearest you can find
to a nice quite Friday night at the pub!
