For Christmas, Nick always gets me
something amazing (this year was another classic in the form of a very sparkly diamond
and sapphire ring), whilst I always insist on getting him a ridiculous stocking
full of tat, but scattered with a couple of things worth having. Along with
this years Lego selection and Terry’s Chocolate Orange, I also included a note
card in the stocking, announcing that I had arrange for us to stay at a room in
Marina Bay Sands this Friday night.
Marina
Bay Sands is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world. The entire three- prong
structure is a huge hotel, with the ship at the top containing a couple of bars
and restaurants, but mostly playing home to the huge swimming pool that
stretches almost the entire length on one side. The building stands out from the rest of the
city, looking into the heart of the CBD, and whist as a member of the public
you can pop up to the top for drink from the very expensive bar, you are only
able to use their incredible infinity pool if you’re staying at the hotel.
As soon as I arrived in Singapore I
knew that I was going to have to get in the pool at least once before we
relocate back to the UK, and so this weekend was the weekend to cross it off my
lengthy Singapore list.
A pool with a view |
Having both managed to escape from work at
around 4pm, we made our way straight to the hotel (a whole two minute walk from
work for Nick) and checked into our room, which had an incredible view of the
city.
The
rest of the daylight hours were spent soaking up the sun and enjoying the view
from the pool, where we some how managed to secure chairs directly on the edge
of the water, in the quietest section of the pool. From here we enjoyed the
view, we swam and hung over the edge of the pool looking out onto the city and
we even enjoyed a cheeky sun downer as the cloudy sky turned pink and most of
the other guests began making their way in for their nights out on the town.
Up on the roof! |
From here on, we didn’t leave the hotel until
we were forced to check out at 11am the next day. We had a very casual,
delicious dinner one floor below, we slept long and late until the following
morning, we enjoyed room service breakfast in bed (apparently the first time
that Nick had ever had room service) and then when 11am came, we dropped in our
key cards at the very last possible moment. It was lunchtime on Saturday and we
had already had quite a weekend adventure – but there was more still to come!
The amazing view from our room! |
