One of Nick’s work buddies is moving
back to the UK next week, and as such tonight was set aside as his farewell
dinner for work friends and a couple of non-work buddies too. I’ve been having
a bit of a miserable week – everything seems to be annoying and frustrating me
at the moment, so the idea of going out for a curry on a week when I am really
trying to be good was nothing short of a nightmare for me this week.
Despite
my complete lack of enthusiasm at the evening, I asked Nick if he wanted me to
go, and he said yes, so I just had to deal with it and join in. Thankfully I
had a 6am wake up scheduled for the next day, as I had to do a presentation for
the team in the US, so even through I did go, I manage to keep my involvement incredibly
low key.
While the rest of the table dug through bowl after bowl of curry and rice I picked at a dry-spiced fish and some vegetarian curry whilst drinking soda water (instead of the beer that everyone else was enjoying), and while the rest of the group headed out to a bar to carry on their evening, I ran away home at around 10pm and jumped straight into bed. I was still miserable, but at least I had manage not to ruin my efforts of the week so far!
I have no idea why I've been so miserable recently, but I can only assume that it's something to do with not escaping Singapore over the past few months. It's not that I am in need of a holiday, but I am in fairly desperate need to get out of Singapore. Thank goodness Nick made more of a plan for our weekend after the Marina Bay Sands stay this Friday. A 7 hour train ride has never been more tempting!
