I started this particular item on my list just
after I turned 25, and I have now finally completed it! I have read every book on the BBC 100 Books to
Read Before You Die list.
Technically I
cheated a little bit because I was already half way through thanks to an A
Level in English Literature that required me to read most of the classics that
the list incudes, but it’s finally done, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
This means that I
will now be able to buy books because I want to read them, rather than I feel
like I have to. It also means that I have made the most of my Kindle, which I
was very hesitant to buy due to the cost when I first started looking into it. My
trusty (and if I’m honest, relatively cheap) Kindle has come from London to Singapore
with me, and has travelled pretty extensively throughout SEA. It now has over
40 different titles on it, and whilst my future bookshelves will look
significantly emptier as a result, it will save me a fortune in shipping when
we eventually move back to the UK!
Reading through
this list was a great project. I’ve developed new obsessions with authors like
Terry Pratchet, and a new hatred of authors like Salman Rushdie - I tried and
failed to read Midnight’s Children so many times, it ended up being my last
book to finish, and my greatest struggle to get through to the end! Still, it’s
all done and dusted now. Number 23 – tick!
