I started this week thinking that it was
going to be well-behaved and very sedate week. That doesn’t seem to be how the
reality is panning out though.
Following
an election during four hours of meetings this afternoon, I was elected as the
Chair for the industry committee that I ran last year too. It’s not really a
huge deal (as the market here is so small), but it has representatives from our
competitors and also big companies like Google, so being elected to Chair the
committee is quite good (if not a bit of a pain thanks to all the extra work it
involves). It's also a great CV builder, and another little tick in the box for when I eventually have to go and apply to yet another new job in the UK when we move back.
When
I found this out (having had no idea that the elections would be taking place
that day), I sent a little message to Nick, just to let him know. Somewhere
during the message conversation that followed my evening plans to go to the gym
and then eat vegetables turned into a plan for us to meet at a very nice local
French restaurant that I have wanted to try out for a while for a less-than-healthy dinner of snails, steak and a large glass of red wine.
I
like to think that this is because it was a special occasion that needed
celebrating, but the reality probably has a lot more to do with our mutual fear
of having to eat yet another bowl of vegetables for dinner. Whilst there have been nights off and cheat days along the way, I'm now entering the fourth month in a row of healthy eating and 6:30am wake up calls. I think my brain may be in the process of staging a revolt this week.
It
was a real treat evening, but with more planned nights out on the horizon I
have a feeling that the very best behaviour might be on hold until next week at
this point.
