Since the lovely Erin has been in Singapore
I have eaten more food than I’ve had the opportunity to scoff in months! It’s
all in the name of entertaining our guest, but it’s been a few days of complete
excess, and it’s been brilliant!
Whilst
I have sadly had to be in work every day of the week, Erin has been enjoying a
nice lie in in the mornings, afternoons in the glorious sunshine by the pool at
our flat, and has been wandering into town to meet me for lunch each week so that
we can ensure we tick off everything on the list before we head off to Phuket
this weekend.
Braving Bak Kuh Teh |
On
day number one I force-fed her bak kuh teh (meat bone soup) for lunch, which
she thankfully rather enjoyed, before we headed up to the tallest al fresco bar
in the world for sunset drinks and incredibly spicy Chinese food for dinner.
Not bad for a Monday night in the city, and besides, I am a firm believer that you
have to spend a certain amount of time at the top of the tallest buildings in
Singapore to really get a feel for the city.
Sunset cocktails at 1-Altitude |
By
Tuesday I was already shattered and full to the brim, but we ploughed on
regardless, with lunch at Chijmes, an amazing church where the courtyard has
been filled with restaurants and cafes, perfect for a lunch in the sun. Then in the evening we had to have a quick
catch up with Nick’s uncle Andy who is going to be doing a reading at our
wedding, and so he wanted to share a couple of his ideas for that game.
Off to the Night Safari! |
Erin and I headed
off pretty quickly, leaving Nick and Andy to have a few beers together whilst we
went in search of lions and tigers and bears at the Singapore Zoo Night Safari!
For some reason we got a little over excited at the gift shop before we even
made it into the Night Safari, and so we spent our entire trip walking around
the enclosures, and enjoying the tram ride through the bigger enclosures whilst
dressed like a giraffe and a white tiger. It was a little strange, but it was a
great night, and definitely one of the best ways to check out the amazing
Singapore zoo!
Today I don’t get
a lunch buddy as I am packing Erin off to the beach club for a full day of
music, sunbathing, eating and drinking in one of the nicest spots in Singapore.
We’ll either round off the days with Ladies Night drinks, another round of Dim
Sum (because it’s just so good), or perhaps some traditional Singapore hawker
food. We’ll just have to see where the night takes us.
