Whilst I’ve been manually keeping tabs on
the exercise I’ve been doing to ensure that the calories going in are
considerably lower than the calories coming out, I have not been keeping track
of the smaller things, like walking to work and taking the stairs rather than
the lift, purely because they feel like small efforts that ought to be made all
the time anyway.
However, with HQ deciding that they
need to invest in our health, the whole team in my office have all been sent
Fitbits, which can monitor everything from daily calories burnt to sleep
patterns. I’m not planning to use it for anything more than monitoring daily movement /
activity, but it will be interesting to see how I stack up against the rest of
our company.
There
are going to be bi-weekly reviews to see who’s moving around the most (and
least) and there will be little prizes for the most active. It seems unlikely
that I will be topping any of the charts (Singapore is just way too hot to
venture outside for too much walking around), but it’ll be fun to monitor and
compare.
Luckily
I’m not very competitive, so this won’t be pushing me even harder to get out
and about…much!
