Sometimes I worry that Nick and myself might be a little bit prematurely
middle-aged. Whilst we may live in a world where it’s apparently compulsory to
go out drinking until 6am six days a week, we’ve been cheating the system quite
a bit since I moved over. I’m sure that
Nick used to go out to play a lot more than he does now, but I just love tea,
and slippers, and making dinner where you know what ingredients have gone into
it.
Shows like The Great
British Bake Off and the BBC Pride and Prejudice box set make me happy, and I
love nothing more than donning my slouch pants the minute I get in the house,
shedding heels, jewellery and hair pins from the minute I step out of the lift
on our floor so that I am comfy from the second I am through the door of the
flat. It’s not glamorous or exciting, but I really don’t care, and thankfully
Nick doesn’t seem to mind too much either.
Occasionally we will go
out for fun and exciting nights out where there buckets of wine and
fantastically elaborate (and often ridiculous) food on offer, but every so
often we also let our inner geeks out and go on little middle-aged outings,
which really are just as much fun (although they are always a lot harder to
persuade a group to come along with us)!
Last night, to round
off September the way we started it (with a live orchestral performance
accompanying scenes from David Attenborough’s Planet Earth) we made our way to
The Star Theatre to see a performance by The Scala and Kolacny Brothers Choir
live.
That’s right, it was
choir music, and I loved every minute of it. The all female choir sang a blend
of original music by the Kolancy brothers, but also a number of rearrange rock
and metal tunes. Radiohead, Metallica, U2 and Cold Play were all featured,
although I have to say that the absolute high point for me was their version of
The Mamas and Papas California Dreamin’. It was just beautiful!
So yeah, we’re old
people now. Living the dream!
