When I told Nick that I would be out a bit later than normal on
Wednesday night this week he jumped at the chance to go out and play with this
work buddies without having to feel like he was missing out on anything fun at
home (there’s very rarely anything fun to miss out on, but the fear is
apparently always there!).
I deliberately didn’t
mention to him that I was going out with people who work in data and research
(that’s code for the people who are as exciting as Accountants in the world of
online media), and so would probably be home by around eight. Whilst he went
out for what turned into many rounds of drinks and a lovely dinner at the posh
spicy Chinese place in the city, I made my way over to a fairly distant
Singapore marina to meet up with my geeks.
The venue was lovely,
and there was some (not much, but some) great red wine on offer. After a glass
of red and a couple of nibbles the very dry evening was rounded off with “Well,
it looks like we have finished the nibbles so it’s probably about time to call
it a night”. This was at around 8pm. I spent more time travelling to and from
that evening than I did actually there!
Still, it’s always fun
to try out somewhere new, and seeing as Nick got the chance to go out and play
with his buddies (an outing that ended past midnight – how far past I have no
idea), so there’s positives mixed up in there somewhere!
