Sometimes it’s nice to do something a little bit different with your
Friday nights, and so this Nick and I went our own separate ways to celebrate
the start of the weekend.
Whilst Kev came over to
the flat to game and watch movies with Nick whilst scoffing kebabs and drinking
‘manly’ cocktails, Jules and I went out in search of some slightly more
exciting drinks and nibbles in town.
Atmosphere and wine! |
It’s been a while since
I’ve had a proper catch up with Jules – we often see each other at big group
events and dinners, but we were well due a proper little one on one chat, and
so we agreed to meet in a trendy but very relaxed part of town. Duxton Hill is
home to ten or twenty great little bars and restaurants, set back from the main
craziness of Chinatown, but still near enough to offices and homes that there’s
always a great atmosphere when you stop in for a quick drink.
We started our night at
the Mexican with a couple of margaritas and a bowl of crisps with guacamole and
salsa on the side. Then, with a lot of girly chat and conversation powering us
through we moved to a nearby tapas place for a couple more bites, before
heading to one final bar for a glass of wine outside on the patio before having
to call it a night and allow Jules to get home.
Sadly she has to work
on Saturdays, so Friday nights have to end at a fairly respectable time (which I
was more than happy with!) but we had a really lovely girly chat, setting the
world to rights and catching up on all the ridiculous things that we can’t
normally talk about when the boys are there. It made me realise just how much I
miss having my girls around all the time, but when we got back to the boys, nestled on the sofa and fully engrossed in games like ten year olds, it sort of made it worth it. I can't wait to see the girls at Christmas, and to talk nonsense at them from the start of the trip right through to the end, but until then I'll just have to get some more girly dates in the diary!
