Nick used to live in a flat over on the East Coast where there’s a stretch
of beach that looks a bit like the coast in LA, and which is the happy place of
all dog walkers, bike riders, BBQer and beach lovers. It’s somewhere that we’ve
spoken about trying out a number of times, but that we have never quite found
the time to do (due to the 20 minute cab ride that it takes to get there – just
20 minutes, but that often feels like too far in a tiny place like Singapore!)
However, a slight
hangover on a beautifully sunny three day weekend wasn’t going to put us off,
so today was the day for a seaside adventure! We cabbed over to the East Coast,
we hired two bikes for three hours and we went on a bike riding adventure. We
had to dodge a dog show, a lot of kids who were utterly out of control on their
bikes, people playing beach volleyball and old people riding double bikes and
taking in the view. It was a bit of a challenge (especially with a slightly sore
head) but we made it!
We took a lovely loop
along the beach, stopping at the top of our loop for a shandy and a shared
snack, and then headed back to return our bikes and shower. When you ride bikes
out here the breeze feels amazing as there’s never any air in Singapore, but
when you stop, good Lord it’s hot!
