Next week is Chinese New Year, one of the
biggest celebrations of the year in Singapore. It means that we will be
ushering out the Year of the Horse, and welcoming in the Year of the Ram, which
is apparently a very exciting thing. It’s still unclear whether the Ram is
supposed to be a goat or a sheep, so everywhere has different pictures and
representations of “Ram” but it’s always fun to see China Town covered in lit
up decorations and street art. I have to admit that the decorations for last
year were a bit prettier, but at least it’s not the Year of the Rat. That would
make some very creepy street decorations throughout China town.
The best things
about being in town for Chinese New Year (we missed it last year) is that we
get an excuse to investigate healthy Chinese food, we have tickets to go to the
parade in a few weeks time which will hopefully be a great Chinese celebration,
and we get a four day weekend next week. It also means that, as the biggest
celebration of the year, we get to spent time entertaining clients in a similar
way to Christmas celebrations back at home.
I have managed to
avoid the lunches (I don’t think that my diet would appreciate bowls of rice
and noodles for lunch every day of the week), but today we spent the whole day
hosting photo booths in some of the main agency shared spaces.
It was a very
strange way to spend the day, but people loved it, we made some great new
contacts, and I managed to avoid doing any real work all day. It’s going to
make next week a whole lot harder (for the three days that we’re in the office)
but it made for a fun end to the week at least. Roll on the Year of the Ram.
