Nick and I recently discovered an amazing
Lebanese restaurant just a five-minute walk from our flat. We first went to
Artichoke for lunch, and were blown away by the amazing variety of incredible
tasty dishes that they have on offer, so when I decided that we perhaps ought
to have a little Friday night out before the crazy Valentines Night obsession
took over Singapore, I knew that Artichoke was the perfect option.
Not
only does the restaurant have a great vibe, without outdoor seating in a lovely
garden area, great music, great service and amazing food, it also specialised
in some of the tastiest vegetarian dishes that I’ve had in a long time, so not
all the options were especially naughty either!
I
had told Nick we were going out for dinner, but not where I had booked, so all
the way there I confused him with mixed ideas about what he ought to expect and
by the time we almost walked past the hidden entrance to the restaurant he was certain
that I was going to inflict either Bak Kuh Teh or German food on him – both of
which repulsed him, although he was doing his best to sound enthusiastic about
all options.
I
could see his body physically relax again when I held him back and directed him
to the safety of Artichokes cosy seating area, and food-safety!
Whilst
we weren’t really drinking, we tried a couple of the house specials, including
an amazing apple juice slushy, and then made our way through a truly delicious
dinner of hummus, baba ganoush with pomegranate, roasted pumpkin edged with
Marmite and fried cauliflower with an amazing smattering of pickled veggies and
strongly flavoured sauce. It might sound a little odd, but it was all utterly delicious!

Fried cauliflower and pickles - utterly delicious! |
It
was so good that we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave without buying the
cookbook, which means I can now make the Marmite pumpkin at home. I can’t wait
to try it out!
I can't wait to get started! |
