Half a week - that's enough for now

It’s Chinese New Year in Singapore this week - we're getting ready to welcome in the Year of the Ram!
Not only does this mean that I really ought to find somewhere amazing for Chinese food over the weekend, but also I only have to work until lunchtime today (Wednesday) and then I am free for the rest of the week. That's a four and a half day weekend, and I can't wait! A lot of our friends are heading out of town for the weekend - when you can go away for four and half days without wasting a day of annual leave it would be foolish not to (unless you were away just two weeks ago!) but we do have a few plans lined up to fill our time.

A cheeky little red packet from my boss

There's nothing too exciting on the cards, but I am intending to make the most of it - working out, catching up with friends, getting through a couple of wed-min jobs. Lots of bits and pieces that will be good to get sorted out.

Having escaped the office at noon today I met my friend Fridah for a healthy (accidentally vegan, which I got in a lot of trouble for) lunch near work, and then wandered home via the shops. Chinese New Year is a bit like Christmas, so everywhere that's not very Western will be shut for the next few days, so I needed to stock up on milk and tea bags, all the essentials! Then I swung by for a cup of tea with Liv; it's great having neighbours to pop over and see. She was in the process of packing ready for her trip to Hong Kong this weekend, so after a quick cup of tea and a natter I headed home to swim before making my way to the Singapore Cricket Club to meet Nick and our friend Big Mike for a couple of drinks.

By the end of the night pretty much everyone who hadn't gone away for the weekend was at the Cricket Club having drinks, so when we ducked out to head home at around 10:30 it really was just in the nick of time. The shots were coming out and the evening was definitely about to go downhill, fast!
