Ready to learn

Emeryville view of San Fran

I survived the 24 hour door to door journey – the wait at the empty airport, the eight hour flight to Japan, the three hour stop over, the long flight to California and then the extended taxi journey to collect the key to the corporate apartment where I was due to stay, but which had not been left where it was supposed to be and so therefore took me an additional three hours to collect.
I am now finally in the apartment and I’m finally clean too (all that travelling without a shower along the way is really not very enjoyable!), and I have just realised how very strange it is to be alone again. I’ve spent the last 27 years living, travelling and working pretty much on my own or with friends. Now I have to spend two weeks on my own and it really doesn’t feel like a very enjoyable idea. I’m worried that this fortnight might prove to be hard work, before I even get into the boardroom for training!
That said, I am here and ready to learn. Today I have wasted some time getting comfortable in my new Starbucks and also taking a walk around the marina in Emeryville, seeing the beautiful San Francisco skyline in the (not too distant) horizon. I’m pleased that I already have some plans to pop over there this week – I really do love that city!
But for now, it’s time to get ready to learn. I’ve got an awful lot of sleep to catch up on, and I have to be fresh and ready to learn from quite early tomorrow morning – the plan it so be in sessions from 9-6pm each and every day this week. I definitely want to be fresh and ready to learn!
