Today, or rather this weekend, has been the first time that I’ve had a
twinge of homesickness since I’ve been in Singapore. I’m not sure if it’s
because it was a nice quiet weekend, the sort of weekend when I would have
brunch and dinner plans every day to make sure I had time to catch up with all
the friends I don’t get to see as much as I would like. Or maybe it was because
I’ve been here for over a month, so it feels like it’s time for my monthly trip
back to the Shire, but whatever the reason, I was in a bit of a sad grump on
Sunday.
I tried to power on
through – I went to my golf class, we visited a foodie market and then met Kev
for a long lunch before heading back to the flat to clean and try desperately
to crack on with series two of Game of
Thrones, but it was just what my Grandma would have called “a dumpy day”,
and there’s very little you can do with a dumpy day, other than just sit it out
and hope it’s finished by the next morning.
As a nice little surprise my parents eventually (almost) managed to get Skype up and running on the computer at home, so we had time for a little chat and a tour around the flat as we've only been able to speak on the phone up to now, so that was quite lovely.
Maybe more time in the
pool and the gym will help. I suppose that now it’s been long enough for me to
miss home, it’s been long enough for me to stop trying anything and everything
just because it’s new, and to get back on the straight and narrow. Well, Monday
is as good a day as any to hit the veggies and avoid all the good things like
cheese and bread I suppose. Hopefully that will help at least a little bit!
