Platinum Class Tuesday

I’ve never really been a massive fan of the cinema; it’s always seemed like a bit of a waste of sunshine. Sitting in a darkened room, not talking to people and trying your best not to fidget really isn’t my idea of a good time - no matter how impressive the special effects of the film.
However, I have to admit that the Platinum Class experience at our local cinema is something not to be sniffed at, so long as the film is loud enough for me not to fall asleep.
Where most cinemas offer weird velvet folding seats, watered down fizzy drinks and way too many youths talking, sniffing and laughing through the films, this night at the cinema was in a league of its own!
The Platinum screening room can only fit around 30 people in it at one time, not because it’s tiny, but because it’s amazing. When normally you would be hovering around in the lobby before a film opens, Platinum Class has an entire bar with table service. In place of the folding chairs you get fully reclining LazyBoys, topped with your own duvet for cosiness and with silencing walls around and alongside to ensure that other people don’t disturb your viewing enjoyment.
The only person that you can see of hear in the cinema is the one person that shares your adjoining table, complete with lamp and silent bell for the waitress to ensure that your ready supply of hot snacks, gourmet popcorn and wine doesn’t run out at any point.
We went to watch Captain America last night, which was pretty good, but to be absolutely honest, it was entirely outshone by the general cinema experience. Kev and Jules, a lovely couple who are more than happy to join us on our stupid outings, joined Nick and myself. In this case, Kev and Nick were incredibly excited about the movie – talking about plot lines and clever twists on the walk over. Jules and I were mostly excited about the comfy chairs and the wine service.
Needless to say, we paired off into a girls and boys booth and whilst the boys watched the film, we chatted away and made our way through one of the biggest buckets of popcorn I think I’ve ever seen!
