The Diplomats' Cup

After a very early start on Sunday morning, and a slightly more relaxed lunch at the flat, Nick and I donned our glad rags and made our way to the Singapore Polo Club, to meet up with Kate and Duncan, and to enjoy the finals of the regional Diplomats Cup.

We had somehow managed to reserve seats in amongst the members area, despite none of us being part of the club, and so we passed a very lovely afternoon sipping on wine, admiring the horses charging up and down, and stamping in divots during the breaks between games.
It was a bit of scorching day, and as were sat on the veranda of the beautiful old colonial building, whilst we weren’t in the direct sunlight, it was almost too hot to be comfortable.
Still, it was lovely to have a little get-together, and the Polo Club is so pretty that it was more than worth braving the temperatures for a few hours. We were actually very lucky with the weather – not only was there an occasional breeze to take the edge off the heat just enough, but an almighty tropical storm also hit around five minutes after we had left the match and pulled up outside our flat. When the rain comes down in Singapore the taxi drivers stop taking fares as its dangerous for them to be rushing around in the seriously bad weather, so we made it back to the flat just in the nick of time, meaning that we were able to spend a lovely chilled out evening at home too, without too much of a nightmare journey to get home. It was a lovely end to a really great weekend. I'm looking forward to a few more chilled out local weekends to come too.
