Sentosa is a little island just off the bottom of Singapore; connected
by bridge and cable car, it’s the perfect location for a sunny daytrip out of
the centre of town. It’s home to a selection of hotels, theme parks and water
worlds, as well as a number of marinas and fabulous sandy beaches. Whilst Singapore itself is business focused,
Sentosa is the Singapore’s playground, for when being in the city gets a bit
too much.
With my love of
Singapore GroupOn growing steadily stronger, this Saturday we decided to use up
a selection of Sentosa tourist tickets that I had picked up online for a bit of
bargain.
Our day started with a
cable car ride from the top of Singapore’s highest hill (it’s really not that
high) over some of the harbour and ferry ports to Sentosa. When they looked
into the car to take a tourist photo of us, I was fairly certain that we didn’t
need a professional memento of the occasion, so my involvement was minimal.
Apparently Nick had other ideas…
Once we were on the other side, we were in full holiday mode. Surrounded
by tourists and holidaymakers we had tickets to ride the street luges down the
fairly steep hill to the beaches and entertainment at the bottom. There really
is no better way to travel!
Having survived the ride down (Nick at a much more impressive speed than
me as I was concerned about running over kids who were taking their time down
the hill) we then had time to play on the Segway route at by the beach. Nick had
done this before, so I think it’s fair to say that he was ridiculously better
than me at it! You control the Segway’s with your weight, leaning forwards and
backwards to control your direction and speed. I went slowly, oh so slow, and
backwards quite a bit too. Segway riding is most definitely not something that
I am natural skilled at.
With the street luge and Segways done, we made our way along the
fabulous sandy beaches until we reached Tanjong Beach Club, where we settled in
under a fantastically welcome aircon unit to have a lovely causal lunch and a
cheeky shandy, admiring the brilliant beaches and the tankers out on the sea.
The last voucher we had left saw us getting the chairlift back up to the
top of the hill ready to ride the cable car back over to the main Singapore
island. We were only over there for a couple of hours, but it was a great way
to spend the day, and it really did feel like we’d had a little holiday in
amongst our weekend at home.
